The project begins with autobiographical performance photographs beside a disused canal in Chengdu. The artist’s body enters a simulated lawn covered with green industrial netting, challenging the rules and meanings attached to public greenery.

The work later takes living sod out of the urban green belt and presents it in inexpensive gilded frames within an exhibition space. Moving from the riverbank to the gallery, grass, frames and spotlights reveal how ordinary public resources can be elevated into objects of authority and deference.

Installation materials include fishing line, lawn, low-cost picture frames, acrylic sheet and photographs. Dimensions variable. Exhibition documentation: Chengdu, 2022.
