Inspired by Daniel Keyes’ novel Flowers for Algernon, this series considers the paradox of intellectual growth: a heightened consciousness can also bring estrangement from the world.
Black-and-white photographs suggest a precise, rational yet detached state, while colour images retain the disorder and sensory warmth of an earlier way of seeing. Cranes become signs of being constructed by external forces. A gnawed apple on a windowsill closes the sequence, questioning what is consumed in the pursuit of knowledge.
