Become Useful examines how the idea of maturity becomes a standard for measuring human value. Against the history of forestry and industry in Northeast China, the term moves from a description of harvestable timber into a demand shaped by society and family.

Raw timber, white fabric and a collaborative event form an intentionally awkward arrangement. The work resists a single mechanical measure of success, asking whether the pursuit of usefulness nurtures an individual or suppresses difference.
